Selected Paintings
Images from street photographs continue to resonate for me over time, becoming source material for paintings and other works. They may be altered by the use of various surface textures—for example, glass beads and magma to refract and reflect light—and by changes in scale and orientation, to highlight specific moments, alter context, or redirect focus. Surfaces may be scraped and collaged elements may be added in order to layer, obscure, or reveal fresh viewpoints. Near-abstract elements underlying a photographic image may be introduced to echo movements within the image, allowing sections of a composition can take on new meaning. Ambiguity is always present in source images and is part of what draws me to work with them over time.
